The current modern age we live in has turned the Internet from a luxury into a necessity. A home without high-speed Internet is now an out of the ordinary thing to witness. Since WiFi provides us with so much convenience, there’s no wonder why every house is now equipped with unifi broadband

However, it’s important to remember that not everyone within a household is capable of navigating the dangerous waters of the Internet. Children especially are extremely susceptible to falling victim in the world wide web. Parents should never allow their kids free reign on their laptops, tablets or other Internet accessible electronic devices and here’s why.

Internet Predators

The biggest concern of any parent out there when it comes to letting your children go online are the predators lying in wait. They deliberately target extremely young children as they don’t know any better about the motivations of other people, especially adults. To children, all adults are grown ups who can be trusted.

Little do they know, they are online sex predators out there who are looking to groom young children. Anonymous chat rooms, social media and internet messaging sites are a hub for these sick predators. Be sure to always know who your children are talking to and never ever allow them to meet people on the Internet willy nilly.

Inappropriate Sites

Another big reason you should always monitor your children’s internet use is that the internet is simply not child friendly. Sure there are websites specifically for children but as a whole, the world wide web is for grown ups. We’re not only talking about X-rated sites that are no brainers to keep your children away from. Popular social media platforms are also rife with inappropriate pictures, videos and posts that your child can easily come across.

If you’re insistent on allowing your young children to have a social media account for some reason, then make sure to make use of filters. Block inappropriate words and hashtags and turn on the safety toggle. While this does not ensure that the website is kid friendly, it lowers the risk of mentally scarring your children with things they are not supposed to see.

Cyberbullying

The internet is unfortunately not always a nice place to be. There are tons of mean, rude, borderline aggressive people who do not care who they are interacting negatively with. They often use profane words and phrases. By not monitoring your children on the internet, they can easily fall victim to these cyberbullies.

Even though being bullied online might seem like a small issue (just switch off the laptop, am I right?), the long term effects on your children’s mental health can be devastating. It’s just like real life bullying, the only difference is it’s online. There are very real consequences to cyberbullying that you must protect your children from at all costs.

Therefore, always monitor your children’s internet use every single day. Better yet, don’t allow them to go on sites including social media platforms until they hit their mid teens. The internet has never been a good place for young children and with the rise of advanced technology, it has become an even more dangerous place for them. So always watch what your child gets up to with your unifi broadband.
