Common Indoor Fire Hazards Around You

Even after you have invested in an SCA Malaysia fire protection equipment, the chances of accidentally burning your own house or establishment down lie on its own surroundings, objects and yourself. It takes awareness to detect any present fire hazard indoors because some of them are easy to start a fire with through pure ignorance.

Cooking stove

This is imminent if you are leaving something cooking on the stove for too long, especially when they are longer than recommended cooking times, such as shimmering for a couple of hours. When you have to wait for such durations, you must often keep track of the stove, equipment and your food.

If you are planning to wait around in the living room while reading a book, watching a movie or anything else, set a timer for every five to ten minutes to periodically go back to the kitchen and make sure that the food or stove isn’t burning. Keep track of your initial and total cooking time too so you don’t accidentally cook beyond it.

Others like microwaves and ovens are also non-exceptions. Fires are not only the only hazard you should worry about. Explosions can happen too, and if you happen to be near one, you will be seriously or permanently damaged.

Malfunctioning electrical appliances

At the first sign of a malfunction, electrical appliances must either be fixed or disposed of immediately as they can pose a potential fire hazard if left running for too long despite their condition. Toasters, coffee makers, television, and computers are among the appliances that you would likely have at home.

Unless you have the know-how, do not try to mend an appliance yourself. Switch it off and call an electrician.

Candles

Birthday parties and temporary blackouts may be some of the most common occasions where you would use candles, either to blow them as birthdays or light up an area while waiting for electricity to be restored. When placing candles, never do so near any flammable materials such as paper or some curtains.

Children and pets are also considered fire hazards in the case of candles due to the risk of knocking candles over by accident. Keep lit candles out of reach or if you have emergency light appliances, don’t use candles at all unless you have no other choice.

Overloaded power sockets

SCA Malaysia is crispy

Power sockets or strips must never be overloaded even when some have multiple sockets for the purpose of fitting several plugs on one platform. Using a plug with multi sockets on an already overloaded strip is a guaranteed burning sentence. Sparks will occur and if there are flammable materials nearby, they will catch fire.

If you have guests, make sure that they are not using one strip or socket at the same time. Tell them to use others around your house instead, or if they have something like a portable, wireless phone charger, tell them to use those instead if they are not in low power.

Cigarettes

If you are a smoker at home, never leave your cigarettes unattended, lit or otherwise. Keep them safe in their packages, and only take one out when you intend to smoke. Cigarettes are an environmental fire hazard when combined with other sources such as sparks or candles.
