SUPPORT US

PRIDE is a non-profit organization dedicated to breast cancer causes. There are many ways in which you can help support our projects and programmes in Malaysia. Here’s a list of what you can do! By supporting you help us with our various projects, including

PRIDE PATIENT FUND
PRIDE has recently launched the PRIDE Patient Fund. This fund is set apart from similar programmes offered by other organizations because it need not necessarily be just for patient treatment but can also be used as financial aid in other areas of a patient’s life to help make their road to recovery slightly easier. Application forms will be made available at all government hospitals.

PROTHESIS PROGRAMME
PRIDE also has an ongoing prothesis programme for deserving patients. The programme was initiated in 2008 and ended in 2011 as similar funds were being offered by government organisations. It has fitted approximately 300 breast cancer survivors and patients with prosthesis bras. The applicants and beneficiaries of this programme come from all over Peninsular Malaysia and PRIDE now intends to make this programme available to those in East Malaysia as well.

PRIDE-UMMC PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual. (WHO definition)

The number of in-patients with life-limiting illness requiring specialist palliative care exceeds 30 at any time in UMMC. Of these, 85% are breast cancer patients. PRIDE Foundation believes that by setting up the PRIDE-UMMC Palliative Care Centre, it will be able to assist cancer patients in seeking treatment and in easing their sufferings. Since 2004, the breast surgeons in UMMC provide care in the palliative care corner in the surgical ward. Recognizing the need for specialized palliative care, two palliative care physicians have been employed by UMMC to develop palliative care culture within the hospital. What is needed now is the physical comfort for the patients and their family members to pull through this difficult aspect of journey of a cancer patient. Recognizing this need, PRIDE has been holding series of discussions with UMMC on the possibilities of establishing a Palliative Centre that will meet the needs of the patients concerned.
