An empowerment programme specially designed to empower breast cancer patients and survivors. This initiative by PRIDE Foundation was carried out over a span of five months, from June to October, 2007.
The main objective of Bond with PRIDE was to restore confidence and self esteem of breast cancer patients and survivors and to provide assurance that they are not alone in their journey to recovery. This programme was officially launched on the 15th of June, 2007 by Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah at JW Marriott Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The first part of the Bond with PRIDE initiative was the spa treatments. A total of 184 patients/survivors and donors were brought together on a day out for a spa session. The aim of this session was to bond with each other and to share their intimate experiences on dealing and coping with breast cancer, as well as to foster interaction, and give emotional and moral support.
These spa sessions were generously sponsored by Energy Day Spa, Kanebo, Spa Village, Mandara Spa, Jentayu Spa, Spa Indrani, Martha Tilaar, Villa Manja and Khareyana Spa.
These sessions were positively received by the patients/survivors who indicated better arm and hand movements as well as inner healing. Some even said that the casual environment made it easier to be open and share their inner feelings.
The second part of the Bond with PRIDE programme was the workshop sessions. 206 breast cancer patients, survivors and family members benefited from this programme. The workshops which were held from August to September, covered financial tips, healthy eating habits, image building and make-up tips.
3 workshop sessions were held with the aim of boosting self image and confidence in the total wellness of the patient. Out of these 3 workshops, 2 were conducted in Bahasa Malaysia and 1 in English, aimed at catering to both language groups.
The third part of the Bond with PRIDE programme was the closing ceremony held on the 29th of October, 2007 at the J.W. Marriott was officiated by Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah, with over 400 guests.
The closing ceremony was held in conjuction with the breast cancer month and PRIDE Foundation felt that it is appropriate to pay tribute to all the breast cancer patients and survivors who had participated in all it’s activities throughout the Bond with PRIDE programme. The highlight of the closing ceremony was the launching of Take PRIDE In Your Life! book. This book captured the personal experiences and inspirational stories of all the participants during their journey in Bond with PRIDE.
