CLIMB WITH PRIDE-ACONCAGUA 2007

Updates from the team in Argentina

The weather was unkind
30 January, 2007

Today, Rene'e, Shereen, Harun and Kabie, who were all back at Penitentes, headed out to start their trek up to Confluencia on the Normal Route. This was part of the plan to meet up with the Summit Team - Stephanie and Zabil - as they make their way out from the mountains, hopefully after conquering the mighty Mount Aconcagua, several days later!

Meanwhile, the Summit Team, alongside camera operator Brad Clement and the guides from Aventuras Patagonicas, continued their brazen journey upwards toward the summit today.

As reported by Aventuras Patagonicas later, Stephanie, Zabil and the rest of the team got to as far the Independencia Hut at 6,300m, just 650m short of the summit. They attempted to reach the peak but were lacking just a bit of luck. Poor weather conditions and freezing temperatures had forced the Summit team to turn back and abandon their progress towards the summit.

According to Rodrigo Mujica, Director of Aventuras, via e-mail, "They accomplished a traverse of the mountain and did a great job trying for the summit."" Alas, the weather was not permitting, and instead, they will be making their way back to Penitentes tonight.

Oh, the majestic Mount Aconcagua. So near and yet so far!
